About this type : Le dodo était un dronte, oiseau qui disparut au siècle dernier .

History : De 1810 à 1903, l'île Maurice a été administrée avec les Seychelles comme colonie britannique. Elle obtint des libertés de plus en plus grandes : dés 1957 elle possède son propre gouvernement et dès 1958, le suffrage universel y est établi. L'indépendance de l'île fut proclamée le 12 mars 1968. La culture de la canne à sucre représentait la principale activité mais désormais l'île Maurice compte aussi sur le tourisme, une industrialisation légère et sur sa place bancaire africaine off-shore.
