This was bought for scrap silver - it is an hemidrachm -
in north syria from an old armenian - I was told he died since - who manufactured
ancient coins for "jewellery". One can wonder why coins for
jewellery require a fake hoard patina and dust... |

This florin is a mystery : it is supposed to be a middle
age official "copy" of a current issue from Lorraine made by
the Duke of Bar c. 1372. We took this one off our sale MONNAIES IV, N°857
(est. 60.000 FRF) as several top specialists considered it a modern forgery.
They might be wrong and the coin genuine, but we took no chances. |

Same sale, MONNAIES IV, N°831, also withdrawn (est
15.000 FRF). Three specialists of the coinage of Metz in Lorraine considered
the coin a XIXth century forgery. We are afraid they are right. |

This one is a cast tetradrachm but is interesting for the
"make-up". It was dropped in acid and got some spots like it
was badly cleaned from a hoard. |
